Begonias and cold spring temps.....?

I have some begonias in hanging baskets. I'm in Atlanta and over the weekend the temps got to the mid 20s. I brought them in, I just need to know at what temp is safe to put them back out. Its supposed to be around 36 tonight. I know begonias love warmer temps. What is the minimum temp they can withstand?

Thanks!!!

PS - I also have some potted ivy.

Begonias and cold spring temps.....?
Welcome to the spring of 2007. When you can, put them in direct sun outside when the temp is over 40. If they happen to be Wax Begonia's they do not need to be moved at any time. Being inside make sure the soil moisture is correct.

Do Not water the leaves. Water the soil to maintain the needed water.

Ivy could care less what the weather is. Some new growth may have curled or turned brown. Pinch those leaves off. This will prevent fungus, disease, and insects. An application of Superior/Dormant Oil can be made, or, you can spray an application of 1tsp per gallon of water of Pure Liquid Ivory Soap to the bed of Ivy. The Begonias also need to have this before going back if you have pets in the house. You can use this application in early spring and fall. Do not use in Summer!! Hope it helps.
Reply:Begonias are tender annuals that can only withstand temps. of 33 degrees F. and higher.

Ivy is hardier, depending on the variety.

Happy Gardening!Let's all hope Spring gets back soon!(My son and I just built an Easter Snow Bunny outside here in Ohio!)
Reply:I'm in Chicago and my begonias thrive. No lie, those suckers keep blooming in December with snow on them! They seem very hearty to me. But when in doubt, bring them in to avoid a problem. As for ivy - we view this as a parasite in my region. It grows no matter what you do to it. But if it's potted, again, take it in at night. You should only have another week or two to worry about it. Lots of luck and Happy Easter!
