Can you trim back Joseph's Coat?

The joseph's coat I planted around the border of my flower bed is so big that you can't see my begonia's. Can it be trimmed like you would a hedge?

Use rose pruning techniques if you expect to get good blooms. Using hedge pruning technique will give you occasional roses.

Why don't you transplant them at the appropriate time (spring in cold winter areas -- fall in mild winter areas) so that the taller roses are in the back and the short begonias are in front?
Reply:yes they can be pruned back.and a hard pruning will only help them.but as stated you should transplant to a better area so as not to run into the same problem next year.
