How do I discourage my cat from eating my houseplants (especially begonias) without removal of one or the othe

I had the same problem with one of my cats and I did the same thing that I always do when any of my cats is doing something they shouldn't or something that can be harmful to them.

Get a can and fill it with pennies...or you can clap your hands in place of the can of pennies....while shaking the can or clapping your hands say "NO" very loudly and firmly when you see the cat eating your plants.

Whatever you do, don't spray the cat with water.

According to my Vet that is the worst way to change a bad behavior in a cat.

Firstly because if you get water in the cats ears or nose it can cause an over growth of yeast which will require a trip to the Vet for medication to clear up the yeast.

Second, the cat won't associate the spray bottle with the bad behavior, it will associate the water with you and can lead to more serious behavior issues down the road.

Good luck.

Kitty needs some greens. You can find cat grass growing kits at most department stores in the pets section.

For a list of plants that are toxic to cats:

Reply:go to the store and buy cat greenies(treats) or cat grass which is grass that grows in the container its in and it'll grow in like three days and then you're cat will love it and chew on that instead. cats just like the taste of plants so if you give them good grass that they are allowed then they probably won't try chewing your plants anymore.
Reply:I used a water bottle and squirted my cat every time I saw her munching on my plants. I also used that method to train her not to get on the kitchen counters. It works, trust me!
Reply:Get a water bottle and squirt your cat every time she goes near your plant .You should only have to do it a few time in less your cat likes water lol.
Reply:I was reading about what to do, because, actually, my cats do the same thing.

So far, everything I found says to spray the plants with something that isn't harmful to either the cat or plant. Something such as a citrus spray. Cats don't like the smell or taste, and it shouldn't harm your plants.

Also, try growing something the cats CAN eat. Grow a small plant of cat grass, and let them nibble on it. They'll get their share, and may leave your beloved plants alone.

Good luck =)

Reply:i would spray the cat with water. Regardless to what others have said. it teaches the cat to learn it is wrong. my cats understand what No means. while you spray them you yell NO it worked with my cats it may also help to move your plants.
